Q: What is this LAN Party thing?
A: A LAN party is a temporary, sometimes spontaneous, gathering of people together with their computers, which they network (Local Area Network -aka- LAN) together primarily for the purpose of playing multiplayer computer games.
LAN party events differ significantly from gaming centers and Internet cafes in that they are generally bring your own computer (BYOC) and are not permanent installations, often taking place in general meeting places or residences.
LAN party attendees tend to be more experienced gamers, as the setup required turns most casual gamers away.

Q: What are the rules and what is restricted?
A: We are an easy going group but have restrictions to keep the fun flowing. Please follow and adhere to the following rules to keep gaming and not feel the collective LAN Boot:
WoW, FF w/e #, EVE online, Warhammer, AoC, and all other MMOs are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN; they tend to drop the population of players in the games that are running. If you want to play these games, please play them at home and don’t bring them.
Load as many of the games you want to play prior to the LAN. Install the latest patches for the games as well.
Be tolerant of others! As games are conducted, cursing is inevitable. This is the nature of a gamer; tolerate it or join in!
Ages 17+ please. Exceptions can be made.
You are responsible for your own actions and are subject to the consequences. Attendance at the event is confirmation that you agree to this statement.
NO speaker systems (if they are in your laptop, disable them and use headphones)!
No CRT Duel Monitor setups; LCD Duel Monitor set up is fine but please be considerate of others space.
Alcoholic drinks on allowed with the proof of a valid State ID.
Smoking is allowed only outside due to IA/IL State Laws (unless the event is hosted residential)
File share is allowed during non-gaming/down times (please make sure you have patch files BEFORE the event).
Local and State laws apply.
QCLanParty.com and Organizers of events are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged equipment that you bring.
No cheating! Some people are good at the game, some just use hacks and that just sucks! If you caught, you are out.
Rules are subject to change/revision at any time with or without notice.
No refunds. If you do something stupid to get booted, then you should have read the rules or not have done the action.
Use common sense and watch your stuff. Sometime the event is hosted in public area's and we don't need PD taking you away.
No equipment with heating elements as they tend to pull to much juice (coffee pots, crock pots, heaters, heat blanks, etc...).

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: As this event/group is a “bring your own computer” (BYOC) group, some things are required. We will provide you with networking and seating. The following is up to you:
Computer
Keyboard
Mouse
Monitor
Headphones
Power strip/surge protector
Misc Cords (Power cords, VGA/DVI cables, Wireless adaptors [keyboard/mice/headphones], etc)
State Photo ID
Food and Drinks and/or cash money to buy some during the event
All of your software (games being played, drivers and OS encase something happens, etc…)
Entry Fee (no pay, no play...unless you know...the event is listed as free - check the event info to may sure you bring the cash)
Network cable (we normally have this covered but it just recommended you bring one encase....25 ft is a good length).
Please note that we do not have any extra of these items. It’s up to YOU the bring everything that’s need minus that stated equipment that we will provide. If you forgot, you will have to go get what you forgot.

Q: How much does the LAN Party cost?
A: Our events are priced per event. The price is normally under $20 bucks and usually is priced only to get the price of the room paid/reimbursed. We at time do free events in which we will ask you for donations to help reimburse the person who sponsored the space to game.

Q: What are the system requirements?
A: The system requirements vary to a degree. Mainly, the requirements can be taken for the most resource intensive game we have listed to play or an average based on the game(s) we play most. In this case, the newest, most resource intensive game we have listed to play is Unreal Tournament III. In this case, the system requirements may be higher. As this will not be the only game we play, you can get an average of game requirements needed. For example, we play HL2:DM, Halo PC, and UT. In this case, I would say that you would be safe having the requirements that you could play HL2: DM on. In ALL cases, a Network card that is 100baseTX will be required. These normally included on the motherboard of most computers and if not can be picked up fairly cheap. The product name that you would be looking for is a 10/100mbps Network Interface Card. You can also have a 10/100/1000mbps Network Card as the network we run is 100mbps, your card will just run at the speed of the network itself.
***If you are looking to do minor upgrades without total system rebuilds; you can get a 512MB video card -and- more RAM for ~$100 at tigerdirect.com or newegg.com***

Q: What is QCLanParty.com's role in the LAN Party?
A: QCLanParty.com is an ad-hoc group in which is made up of a few people that would like to get together and game with others. The group is a non-profit group that simply games for fun; no officers needed here. In its simplest form, it’s an idea that has been given a name in which to define it for the purpose of advertising it. During the time that there are no parties going on, there is dormancy among the gamers on a local level. When there is an event planned, everyone springs back to life and people do their part to kick things off.

Q: Networking?
A: We will provide you with the networking equipment needed including network cabling via cat5e.
Networking will be provided via a wired Ethernet star topology network; wireless may be available but is not suggested.
Please configure your machine to allow DHCP to obtain a dynamic IP address. No static IP addresses please.
Adjust your file sharing. If you don't want others to see your files, stop sharing them before you attend.
Internet is provided but is restricted. Please download what you need before the event as large d/l's slow things down.

Q: Can I bring console gaming systems?
A: Sure! There is no extra cost, but if we run into power issues, it may be asked that it be disconnected. Also remember that you will be required to use head phones. Side note as well, please limit the size for you TV that you bring with it to 20" or under. If you can, get a VGA adaptor and use your computer monitor. Saves space and power. You will be responsible for network and power for any extra machines (consoles, servers, etc). Just note that if we run into power issues, it will be one on the first things to go.

Q: Can I bring a Server?
A: Sure thing! Make sure it is configured prior to the event. You will be responsible for network and power for any extra machines (consoles, servers, etc). Just note that if we run into power issues, it will be one on the first things to go.

Q: Can I host my own LAN Party?
A: Sure! We can help you with set up, posting the event for registration, answer questions, or put the whole thing together if you have the space.

Q: Is there anything I can help with?
A: Glad you asked! We can always use help for set up such as cleaning before hand, table and seating setup, cleaning after, tear down, and odds'n'ends. Additionally, donations of Cat5e/Cat6 cable of lengths 14ft or 25ft and greater are of help. Also if you can help with folding tables such as donation or a reasonable priced supplier, this would help with possible locations for set up.
